JDC & Speakers

The Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) is the leading global Jewish humanitarian organization, serving as a beacon of hope for Jews and others in 70 countries today.  JDC acts whenever and wherever it is needed, propelled by Jewish values and a commitment to mutual responsibility.

 

Marina Sonkina is a fiction writer, and teaches in the Liberal Arts Program 55+ at Simon Fraser University.  She immigrated to Canada with her two sons, as the Soviet Union was breaking up.  When Russia attacked Ukraine, she worked as a volunteer with the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in Poland, offering refugees medical and psychological support.  (Marina’s books on refugees’ stories are available for purchase.)

 

Gary Segal is a successful Vancouver businessman who emphasizes the importance of giving back to the community.  He was honoured in December, 2022, with Membership in the Order of Canada for his enduring commitment to humanitarian work, philanthropy and service to the community.  He serves on the Board of the Joint Distribution Committee.
